Koenigsegg Automotive AB was founded in 1994 in Sweden by Christian von Koenigsegg to design and build high-performance sports cars. Headquartered at a former air force base in Ängelholm, the manufacturer develops most of its components in-house, including carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, bespoke V8 engines, and specialized drivetrain hardware. The company also places the ghost badge of the air squadron formerly stationed at the airfield on its engine bays.
The brand built its engineering reputation around proprietary technology rather than off-the-shelf components. Notable innovations include dihedral synchro-helix doors, the clutchless Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) transmission in the Regera, and the nine-speed, multi-clutch Light Speed Transmission (LST) introduced in the Jesko. Its key production milestones span the Agera RS - which set multiple production-car speed records in 2017 - the four-seat Gemera megacar, and the CC850.
