The SLS AMG suspension used double wishbones and wheel carriers made from forged aluminium.
Combining the front-mid engine with the rear transaxle produced roughly 48:52 front-to-rear weight distribution.
The SLS AMG's seven-speed dual-clutch transmission was mounted at the rear in a transaxle layout and linked to the engine by a carbon-fibre driveshaft.
Dry-sump lubrication allowed the SLS AMG's V8 to be installed lower, reducing the car's centre of gravity.
The SLS AMG engine produced 420 kW, or 571 hp, and 650 Nm of maximum torque.
The SLS AMG used the naturally aspirated M159 V8 with an actual displacement of 6,208 cc, extensively reworked from the M156 engine.
The SLS AMG was the first Mercedes-Benz and AMG car to combine an aluminium spaceframe with an aluminium body.
The SLS AMG coupé used wide-opening roof-hinged doors that deliberately echoed the classic 300 SL Gullwing.
The SLS AMG was the first road car developed from the ground up by Mercedes-AMG as a complete vehicle.
