Facts
BYD quoted DC charging at up to 110 kW for the U8 Premium Edition, enabling about 30-80% in 18 minutes.
The U8 Premium Edition uses the DiSus-P intelligent hydraulic body-control system to actively manage body position and movement.
The e4 system can control each wheel's torque to help maintain U8 stability even during a sudden tire-pressure loss.
Independent control of all four wheels allows the U8 to perform a near-on-the-spot rotation that the manufacturer calls an all-terrain tank turn.
BYD quoted about 1,200 hp of system output and 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds for the U8 Premium Edition.
The U8's e4 platform uses four independently controlled motors, enabling individual torque vectoring at each wheel.
The U8 Premium Edition uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain; at launch BYD quoted a combined range of up to about 1,000 km on the CLTC cycle.
The U8's vehicle-to-load function can supply up to 6 kW to external equipment; BYD quoted the ability to power devices for up to about 25 hours.
The Yangwang U8 Premium Edition was officially launched on 20 September 2023 at 1,098,000 RMB, with deliveries announced to begin in October 2023.
In an emergency mode, BYD says the U8 Premium Edition can remain afloat for up to 30 minutes while retaining limited control to escape danger.
