Porsche Sonderwunsch and Manthey have transformed a nearly new 991.2-generation 911 GT2 RS into the one-off Flachbau RS. The car remains road legal, but receives new bodywork, revised aerodynamics and an extensive weight-reduction program inspired by the Porsche 935/78 "Moby Dick" race car.
The largest visual change is at the front. The familiar high-mounted 911 headlights give way to flatter fenders and extremely slim stacked LED units. Porsche also redesigned the front bumper and added vents to relieve pressure in the wheel arches. At the rear, a new wing uses S-shaped mounts inspired by the 911 GT3 R rennsport.
The work is functional as well as visual. Porsche says the converted car is 31.6 kg lighter than before. The infotainment and audio systems were removed, much of the sound insulation disappeared, and unnecessary wiring was taken out. In its high-downforce setting at 340 km/h, Porsche says the rear axle produces 554 kg of downforce.
The powertrain was left unchanged at the owner's request. The difficult work instead centered on maintaining road legality while changing lighting, body shape and aerodynamic behavior. Specialists from Sonderwunsch, Style Porsche, Weissach, Porsche Motorsport and Manthey spent almost three years on the project, including wind-tunnel and lighting development.
The Flachbau RS will remain a factory one-off. It demonstrates how far Porsche's Sonderwunsch program can go beyond paint, trim and conventional personalization when a customer commissions a technically involved conversion.
