Peugeot confirms Malthe Jakobsen will leave after the WEC finale at Monza

Peugeot confirmed on November 2 that the six-hour race at Monza on November 8, 2026, will be Malthe Jakobsen's final FIA World Endurance Championship appearance with Team Peugeot TotalEnergies. The 23-year-old Dane has spent the past two seasons racing the factory Peugeot 9X8 in the Hypercar class. His departure brings an end to a four-year association that took him from a rookie test to a full-time seat at the top level of endurance racing.

A gradual rise through Peugeot's programme

Jakobsen first joined the team's orbit at the rookie test at the end of the 2022 season. He became a junior driver in 2023, was appointed reserve driver for 2024 and moved into the race lineup for 2025. Throughout the last two campaigns, he has been a regular in the No. 94 Peugeot 9X8. His promotion was the product of a sustained development programme rather than a sudden change of teams.

The clearest indication of his pace came at Spa-Francorchamps on May 8, 2026, when he secured the 9X8's first pole position in WEC competition. He had also been part of a Peugeot podium finish at Circuit of The Americas in 2025. This season has been less rewarding in race results: sixth place at Fuji remains the best finish for his crew.

A farewell where the 9X8 made its debut

Jakobsen will share the No. 94 car at Monza with Théo Pourchaire and Loïc Duval. Alex Quinn, Nick Cassidy and Paul di Resta are entered in the sister No. 93 Peugeot. The team has identified a points finish as its objective for the finale, while acknowledging how closely matched the Hypercar field has become.

Monza is a fitting location for this particular goodbye. Peugeot's 9X8 made its WEC debut at the Italian circuit in July 2022, then delivered the team's first championship podium there in 2023. The track has since been resurfaced and some kerbs modified, adding another variable to a race the manufacturer hopes will suit its prototype.

Peugeot has not named Jakobsen's replacement or confirmed where the Danish driver will race next. He has been linked in specialist reporting with McLaren's incoming Hypercar programme for 2027, but that possible move remains unconfirmed. What is certain is that the November 8 finale will close his time as a Peugeot factory race driver, an association that produced the 9X8's landmark first qualifying pole.
