Jack Aitken secured the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTP drivers' title as soon as the No. 31 Cadillac V-Series.R took the start of Petit Le Mans. Starting the Road Atlanta finale gave him enough points to make the championship mathematically safe before the 10-hour race had properly developed.
The same moment settled the other two major GTP championships. Cadillac Whelen, operated by Action Express Racing, clinched the teams' title, while Cadillac secured the manufacturers' championship. IMSA confirmed all three outcomes during the opening hours of the season finale.
Aitken shared the No. 31 Cadillac with Earl Bamber and Frederik Vesti at Petit Le Mans. The unusual title-clinching scenario meant the full-season drivers' championship was effectively decided by taking the green flag rather than by the finishing position. The race still mattered for the crew, which remained in contention for another strong result.
The ending did not go the No. 31 team's way. IMSA reported that a late incident denied the Cadillac what would have been its eighth podium of the season. The overall victory went instead to the No. 6 Porsche 963, with the No. 24 BMW M Hybrid V8 and No. 40 Cadillac V-Series.R completing the GTP podium. None of that changed the championships that had already been secured at the start.
These titles belong to the full WeatherTech Championship and are separate from the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup standings. For the Cadillac V-Series.R program, the Road Atlanta weekend therefore closed with the GTP drivers', teams' and manufacturers' championships even though the final 10-hour race itself was won by Porsche.
