McMurtry starts Spéirling production at new factory and launches technology arm

McMurtry Automotive has opened a new facility in Wotton-under-Edge as production of the Spéirling PURE begins. At the same time, the British company has launched McMurtry Technology, a separate division intended to commercialise engineering developed for its extreme electric fan car.

The new production site covers about 2,700 square metres and operates alongside McMurtry's existing headquarters. The company said the first customer car was expected to be handed over in summer 2026. Spéirling PURE pricing starts at £995,000 before taxes, shipping and options, while prototypes had accumulated more than 5,000 km of testing before production.

McMurtry Technology is the other major part of the announcement. The division will offer products and engineering services to outside manufacturers in five areas: on-demand downforce, performance battery technology, electric powertrains, vehicle lightweighting and vehicle software. McMurtry says the unit already has external clients and is generating revenue.

For the company, this changes the scale of the Spéirling programme. The car is moving beyond record attempts and technology demonstrations into actual customer production. At the same time, engineering created for an extremely low-volume hypercar is being separated into a business that can serve other manufacturers.

The timing is significant for a company founded in 2016. The new factory provides the physical capacity for customer builds, while the technology arm offers a way to spread the cost and value of Spéirling's specialist engineering beyond the tiny number of cars McMurtry will build itself.
