Lamborghini targets WEC return with Temerario GT3, but 2027 looks unlikely

Lamborghini wants to return to the FIA World Endurance Championship with the Temerario GT3. Speaking to Daily Sportscar and RACER, Squadra Corse head Andrea Reggiani described the championship as a longer-term target, while warning that an entry as soon as 2027 is unlikely. The ambition concerns customer GT3 racing, not a restart of the suspended SC63 prototype campaign.

Reggiani outlined a gradual route through the Asian Le Mans Series and European Le Mans Series before a possible LMGT3 presence in the WEC. The manufacturer would need a suitable customer team, and an entry would still depend on grid capacity and acceptance by the organizers. Reggiani said interest among prospective teams already exceeds the places available in the Asian series.

One part of that plan is firm: two Lamborghini Temerario GT3s appear on the published entry list for the 2026/27 Asian Le Mans Series. Although the championship retains its Asian name, the coming winter season will be staged in Europe because of the security situation in the Middle East. Those races will give the new GT3 car further endurance experience and provide a practical base for the proposed expansion.

The WEC is a harder step. New Hypercar programs are increasing pressure on the overall grid, while the LMGT3 line-up depends on the championship's allocation process. Lamborghini has neither announced a WEC partner team nor secured an entry for 2027. Reggiani's comments express an objective, not a confirmed return date.

Nor should the new direction be confused with a revival of the SC63 LMDh. Reggiani said nothing had changed regarding that paused program. Lamborghini is watching the rules being developed for 2030, with no decision yet to bring its prototype back.

There is also unfinished business in the United States. With Pfaff Motorsports ending its partnership, Lamborghini is discussing possible IMSA arrangements for 2027. Reggiani hopes the marque will remain represented, but has not confirmed whether that would be in GTD, GTD Pro or both.

For now, the two Asian Le Mans Series entries are the concrete commitment. The WEC and ELMS plans remain ambitions that depend on customer teams, budgets and available championship places.
