Jaguar Type 01 debuts with more than 1,000 PS and 850-volt architecture

Jaguar has unveiled the production Type 01 in New York, a four-door electric grand tourer that begins a new generation of cars for the British marque. It is the first production Jaguar built on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture and the centerpiece of the company's long-planned electric reset.

The headline numbers are substantial. Jaguar claims more than 1,000 PS, an 850-volt electrical system and an EPA range of 400 miles. At a 350 kW charger, the company says the Type 01 can add 200 miles of range in 13 minutes. Those figures remain manufacturer claims rather than independently verified test results.

The production car preserves much of the stance previewed by the Type 00 concept, including the very long hood, low roof and broad, almost monolithic surfaces. Unlike the two-door show car, however, the Type 01 has four doors and seating for four adults. Inside, a central spine runs through the cabin to create four distinct seating spaces, while Jaguar says digital controls have been integrated to appear when required rather than dominate the interior.

The significance goes beyond the specification sheet. Type 01 is not an electric derivative of an existing Jaguar but the first road car in the brand's new product generation. Its name is intended to make that break explicit: "Type" refers to Jaguar's historic naming tradition, "0" denotes zero tailpipe emissions and "1" identifies the first vehicle of the new era.

Orders are scheduled to open in early 2027, with the first customer deliveries expected in the second half of that year. The next test for Jaguar will be whether the production car can deliver the range, charging performance and driving character promised at its launch while carrying the design language of the controversial Type 00 into regular series production.
