Ferrari Daytona SP3 Tailor Made sells for record $26 million

A one-off Ferrari Daytona SP3 Tailor Made has sold at RM Sotheby's Monterey auction for $26 million. The auction house described it as the most valuable new car ever sold at auction, with the entire proceeds going to the Ferrari Foundation.

The car was built as an additional example beyond the original production run of 599 Daytona SP3s, giving rise to its informal “599+1” description. Its body combines exposed carbon fibre with Giallo Modena, and a Ferrari wordmark stretches across the full length of the car. Ferrari says it is the first time the company has used the logo in this way as a full-body livery element.

Inside, the specification includes Q-Cycle material made from recycled tyres, yellow seatbelts and bespoke embroidery. Mechanically it remains a Daytona SP3, so its uniqueness comes from its officially sanctioned extra-build status and Tailor Made specification rather than a separate powertrain.

The price was many times higher than a regular SP3 and was achieved under the unusual conditions of a charity auction. Even with that qualification, the result is significant for the modern collector-car market: a factory-recognised one-off derived from a closed limited series can now reach values more commonly associated with the most important historic cars.
