A 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO sold for €9,117,500 at Gooding Christie's Paris auction during Rétromobile. The auction house confirmed that the result is a new world auction record for the model, beating the previous benchmark set only weeks earlier by nearly €2 million.
The 288 GTO was the top lot of a sale that generated more than €50 million and sold 66 cars. The result is notable not just for the absolute number, but for how quickly the market benchmark for one of Ferrari's defining 1980s road cars moved upward.
The same auction produced another major Ferrari record. A 2018 FXX K Evo sold for €6,980,000, also establishing a world auction record for its model. Other seven-figure results included a Talbot-Lago T150-C-SS Teardrop Coupe at €6,755,000 and a Ferrari FXX Evo at €4,448,750.
Gooding Christie's also reported model records for a Lancia Stratos HF Stradale and Ferrari 512 TR Speciale. The Paris event was therefore broader than one exceptional Ferrari result, showing strength across rare competition-derived and limited-production cars from several eras.
For the 288 GTO, however, €9.1175 million is now the public auction reference point. It places Ferrari's first modern-era GTO at a price level that, until recently, was more commonly associated with much older competition Ferraris and the rarest pre-war machinery.
