A 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider has sold in Monaco for €16.655 million. RM Sotheby's says the result is a new world auction record for the model.
The car led the April 25 sale at the Grimaldi Forum. It is a restored covered-headlamp example, placing it among the most coveted open Ferraris of the early 1960s. The final price moved beyond the auction house's upper estimate.
The record came during an unusually strong Monaco event. Total sales reached €87,967,385 with a 90 percent sell-through rate. RM Sotheby's described it as the highest-grossing multi-car collector auction the company has ever held in Europe.
Ferrari also dominated the upper end of the results. A 2004 Enzo sold for €6.53 million, an FXX-K Evo reached €5.18 million and a Signal Green LaFerrari made €5.0675 million. A Bugatti Bolide and Ferrari 312 T3 also set model records at €4.33625 million each.
The California Spider remains the headline result. Its €16.655 million public sale creates a new benchmark for the short-wheelbase version and reinforces the position of the best classic Ferraris at the very top of the collector market.
