Fangchengbao FORMULA X previews a production sports car for 2027

Fangchengbao, BYD's personalisation-focused sub-brand, has revealed the FORMULA X concept at the Beijing Auto Show. The company describes it as a preview of a production sports car, taking the marque beyond the SUV and off-road-oriented products that built its early identity.

The debut came alongside the new FORMULA S and FORMULA SL sedan lines. Fangchengbao's own brand timeline records April 24 as the global premiere of its new sedan and sports-car series and calls FORMULA X a production-preview prototype.

BYD has not yet released a complete production powertrain specification or performance figures for FORMULA X. Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported that the sports-car line is expected in 2027 and that the eventual production design is intended to retain more than 80 percent of the concept's styling. Those figures are therefore best treated as programme targets rather than final homologated specifications.

The car also changes the shape of Fangchengbao's portfolio inside the wider BYD group. Until now the marque has been associated primarily with electrified SUVs and rugged vehicles. A low sports car gives it a very different role and adds another performance-focused branch alongside the group's more extreme Yangwang and Denza projects.
