BYD-owned Denza unveiled the electric Z on July 9 in Coupe, Spider and Racing forms. The car is built around a new e3 sports-car platform and uses three electric motors. Denza quotes 1,604 PS and 1,240 Nm for all versions, positioning the Z as the brand's most direct move into the supercar segment.
One motor drives the front axle, while two more independently power the rear wheels. That layout allows active torque control from side to side. Denza combines it with DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension and steer-by-wire, removing the conventional mechanical steering link between the wheel and the front axle.
The company claims the Coupe can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 2.25 seconds and reach 186 mph. With optional semi-slick tyres, the Racing version is quoted at 1.96 seconds and 217 mph. Those are manufacturer figures rather than independently measured results.
The Z also uses a second-generation Blade battery and Denza's FLASH Charging system. The company says a 10-to-97-percent charge can be completed in nine minutes. Despite supercar-level performance claims, the Coupe and Spider keep four-seat cabins, and the Racing version also has rear seats unless the optional roll-cage configuration is chosen.
The public debut took place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Denza also confirmed a Special Edition intended for Nürburgring Nordschleife record attempts later in the year. For BYD, the Z is therefore more than a fast electric flagship: it packages triple-motor torque control, active chassis hardware, steer-by-wire and very high-rate charging into one model intended to establish Denza as a global performance brand.
