Caterham has created a track-focused Seven Miami Special Edition limited to 12 individually numbered cars. The company announced the project on April 28 ahead of its public debut during the Miami race weekend.
The special edition is based on the lightweight Seven R and wears bespoke Aqua paint with Vibrant Pink and White graphics plus Miami script. Ten of the 12 cars are due to be offered through Caterham's US dealer network after the event.
Mechanically, it remains deliberately simple. A naturally aspirated 2.0-litre Ford Duratec four-cylinder produces 210 bhp and drives through a five-speed manual gearbox. Caterham lists a weight of 560 kg, a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 136 mph. The quoted power-to-weight ratio is 375 bhp per tonne.
The production run is tiny even by Caterham standards. The company frequently uses short special editions to explore different themes around the Seven, but a 12-car series with a specifically American identity makes the Miami edition unusually narrow in scope and likely to appeal as much to collectors as to track-day drivers.
The first public display was scheduled for May 1 at the Miami International Autodrome. The cars are hand assembled at Caterham's UK headquarters.
