Caterham Seven HWM Edition is limited to 19 cars

Caterham and HWM have created the Seven HWM Edition, a 19-car run for UK customers inspired by the 1951 HWM-Alta racer. The special edition combines period references with the mechanical package of the modern Seven 420.

Every car is finished in HWM Green, with the colour scanned directly from the historic racing car. Other references include HWM-Alta-style side louvres, a bespoke nosecone grille, and suspension components, anti-roll bar and headlamp brackets finished in Retro Grey. The cabin adds a turned-aluminium-style dashboard, Smiths instruments, a Moto-Lita steering wheel and a numbered "1 of 19" plaque.

Underneath those details is the familiar Seven 420 hardware. Its naturally aspirated 2.0-litre Ford Duratec four-cylinder produces 210 bhp and drives the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. HWM offers the edition with either the standard S3 chassis or the wider SV chassis. UK pricing starts at £57,990.

HWM, short for Hersham and Walton Motors, was founded in 1938. Before becoming best known as a sports-car dealership, it built its own racing cars and competed in post-war Grand Prix events. The new Caterham does not attempt to reproduce the 1951 machine mechanically. It instead places HWM's racing colours and recognisable visual details on one of the few current sports cars whose basic lightweight formula still feels closely connected to that era.
