Aston Martin Valhalla Spider keeps its 350 km/h top speed without a roof

Aston Martin unveiled the Valhalla Spider on 28 October 2026, bringing an open cockpit to its mid-engined plug-in hybrid supercar. The company says the car can reach its electronically limited 350km/h top speed either with the roof removed or with the optional carbon-fibre hardtop installed. The standard removable fabric roof has a lower permitted speed of 200km/h. That distinction matters when considering the headline claim that the Spider sacrifices no top-end performance.

The powertrain is carried over from the coupe. Aston Martin quotes 1,079PS and 1,100Nm from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre flat-plane-crank V8 and three electric motors. The combustion engine contributes 828PS, with the electric system providing a further 251PS. Two motors drive the front axle and deliver electric torque vectoring, while the third works with the V8 and eight-speed dual-clutch transmission at the rear. The axles have no mechanical drive connection.

Making the open car behave like the coupe required aerodynamic changes rather than simply removing a roof panel. A detachable wind deflector manages airflow over the occupants, and the engine's roof-level air intake has been reshaped and raised by 35mm. Revised active-aero and stability-control calibrations address the different airflow conditions. Aston Martin claims more than 600kg of downforce with the roof fitted; it does not give that figure as a blanket measurement for every roof configuration.

The carbon-fibre structural tub remains, while frameless side glass and revised door movement distinguish the Spider's dihedral doors. New carbon-fibre Touring seats are standard, and each sill houses a 15-litre storage space. Customers can choose the original, more heavily bolstered coupe-style seat instead.

According to evo, Aston Martin expects the Spider to account for roughly one quarter of the existing 999-car Valhalla production allocation, rather than expanding that total. Customer deliveries are due to begin in the third quarter of 2027. The car will make its public debut at the Concours at Wynn in Las Vegas.
