Manufacturer

Hispano Suiza

Hispano Suiza was founded in Barcelona in 1904 by Spanish businessman Damián Mateu and Swiss engineer Marc Birkigt. The manufacturer established its early reputation on high-end luxury automobiles and aircraft engines, supplying V8 aviation powerplants during World War I. The company's historic stork mascot originated as a homage to a French fighter squadron that flew aircraft equipped with Birkigt's engines.

Following a prolonged period of dormancy after the mid-20th century, the brand was revived by descendants of the Mateu family through the Peralada Group. Operating out of Barcelona, the modern company specializes in low-volume, high-performance electric hypercars. Its main models, the Carmen and the lighter Carmen Boulogne, pair vintage-inspired styling with a carbon-fiber chassis and a multi-motor electric powertrain delivering over 1,000 horsepower.
